NBA -- Nuggets slaughter Wolves for 8th straight win

CHICAGO -- Under the spotlight of the Miami Heat's ongoing 17-game winning streak, the Denver Nuggets have quietly stringed together an eight-game winning run, bumping their record up to 42-22, second-best in the Northwest Division and fifth overall in the Western Conference.
Victory No.8 came at the expense of the slipping, injury-plagued Minnesota Timberwolves, who fell 111-88, Saturday night at the Pepsi Center. The Nuggets improved their home record to 28-3, tops in the NBA alongside the defending champions Heat.
The Nuggets pulled away in the third quarter and turned a 57-57 tie into an 83-68 lead with 34.2 seconds left before the start of the fourth quarter. Point guard Ty Lawson directed Denver's onslaught, scoring 32 points with three assists. Lawson swished 12 of 17 field goals, including all four of his 3s.
None of the other Nuggets starters played exceptionally well, with Danilo Gallinari and Andre Igoudala finishing only with 11 apiece and Kenneth Faried settling for four points. But Corey Brewer came off the bench with 15 and Denver converted 53.8 of its field goals and nine of 17 3s. The Nuggets also controlled the boards, 43-40, and had three fewer turnovers against Minnnesota's 22.
"They played with a lot of energy in the second half. Ty Lawson hit shots and it turned their way in the second half. They're attacking, they're running, they;re running and they're running. You've just got to hold on," Minnesota guard J.J. Barea told NBA.com. Barea had 15 points for the Timberwolves, who dressed only nine players due to injuries.
Without leading scorer Kevin Love, Mickael Gelabale paced the Wolves with 19 and Derrick Williams added 13, but it wasn't enough for Minnesota, which made only 35 of their 84 field goals for a low 41.7 percent clip.
Hopelessly out of the playoffs picture, the Timberwolves dropped to 21-38, 12th overall in the Western Conference.
