Hopkins vs. Cloud: Undercard Results from The Barclays Center

Brooklyn, NY - The modern Barclays Center plays host to Golden Boy Promotions and HBO's presentation of its World Championship Boxing series headlined by Bernard Hopkins and IBF Light Heavyweight champ, Tavoris Cloud. The following are the results of the undercard fights tonight here from the borough of Brooklyn.
BUJAL vs. ALBINO
The night of boxing in Brooklyn opened with a well applauded Cruiserweight bout between New York's own, Steve Bujal (8-0, 6 KO) against Zeferino Albino (4-15-3, 2 KO) of Philadelphia. Both fighters did not shy exchanging big punches against each other in their scheduled 4 rounder with the unbeaten Bujal landing the punches that matter.
All three judges at ringside unanimously scored the fight 40-36 for Bujal.
STATEN JR. vs. HILL
Claude Staten Jr. successfully made his professional debut in his hometown with a convincing UD win over fellow featherweight Mike Hill (0-1) of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Staten Jr. downed Hill in the opening round and outclassed him in the remainder of their 4 round bout in front of his family and friends at the Barclays Center.
The scores were 40-35 on all three cards.
GALARZA vs. IBARRA
The first knockout of the night came via one of Brooklyn's own, Frank Galarza (8-0-1, 4 KO) demolished Guillermo Ibarra (7-1, 4 KO) of Los Mochis, Mexico in two rounds.
Ibarra went down after being in the receiving end of a flurry of punches from Galarza in Round 2 of their junior middleweight fight. The Mexican fighter beat the mandatory 8 count but the Brooklyn fighter sent him down to the canvass again with a perfectly placed straight right. There was no recovering for Ibarra from that punch as Referee Arthur Mercante called an end to the bout at the 2:19 mark of the 2nd round.
BROWNE vs. THORPE
Former U.S. Olympian, Marcus Browne (2-0, 2 KO) continued his winning ways in the professional rank with a first round stoppage of fellow light heavyweight, Josh Thorpe (1-2) of Cincinnati, Ohio.
The 22 year old Browne overwhelmed his opponent with his punches, staggering him early in the fight. Thorpe went down early from Browne's combinations but he managed to get up after his knockdown.
A series of unanswered punches by Thorpe seconds later, prompted Referee Pete Santiago to halt the fight with 18 seconds left in the opening round.
Browne improves his record to 3-0, all by knockouts.
Eddie GOMEZ vs. Javier GOMEZ
Another undefeated New York fighter maintained his perfect record when Eddie Gomez (12-0, 8 KO) earned an easy first round win against Javier Gomez (14-10, 10 KO) of Tijuana, Mexico.
The 20 year old light middleweight from the Bronx landed a hard left hook that hurt his Mexican counterpart early in the fight. Javier Gomez staggered and wobbled on his way down to the canvass forcing Referee Arthur Mercante to halt the fight immediately.
The time of the TKO was 1:17 of Round 1.
PEREZ vs. SMITH
A shortened lightweight fight concluded tonight's undercard fights here at the Barclays Center. The bout between Michael Perez (18-1-1,10 KO) of Newark, New Jersey and Lonnie Smith (14-4-2, 10 KO) of Las Vegas, Nevada ended in a Majority Draw after the fight was stopped after the 7th round.
Perez sustained a deep cut on his right eye after an accidental clashing of head between him and Smith in the middle of their 10 round bout.The two fought a lively battle that saw the Newark native gaining the early advantage by scoring a 2nd round knockdown of Smith.
Smith survived that tumultuous round and came back strong from the 3rd round onwards by mixing head and body punching against his taller opponent.
Referee Shada Murdaugh halted the fight after the 7th upon the advice of the physician at ringside that Perez cannot continue further because of the cut.
Judge Joe Pasquale had Perez leading with a score of 65-67 while judges Julie Lederman and Carlos Ortiz had the fight even at 66-66 for both fighters.
