CHICAGO -- After Miami Heat fans sweated out LeBron James' awkward landing last Sunday at the Madison Square Garden, it was the turn of New York Knicks fans to hold their breath yesterday when franchise player Carmelo Anthony crumpled on the floor following a one-man mishap at the Quicken Loans arena in downtown Cleveland.
The tumble occurred with 6:41 left in the second quarter of New York's dramatic 102-97 comeback win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. While darting toward the Knicks basket, Melo tripped and fell near midcourt as he tried to snatch a long pass from teammate Jason Kidd, Looking more flustered than hurt, Anthony gathered himself together, was ushered to the locker room and did not return.
"My knee gave out. My leg gave out," he told the New York Times
Thankfully, though, he's alright. "We don't think it's too serious at all," added the multiple All-Star.
As it turned out, the knee has been bothering Anthony for a couple of weeks now. He had an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) done on it on Saturday and although no structural damage was found, he did receive treatment during halftime of the Heat game, which New York lost 99-93 after surrendering a 16-point advantage.
The good news is that the 28-year old Anthony only has a sore knee, reports ESPN New York.
The bad news is that after a promising start to the season, the 36-21 Knicks have dropped to third place in the Eastern Conference behind the 38-22 Indiana Pacers and the 44-14 Miami Heat. (Homer Sayson)
