Filipino southpaw Czar Amonsot has won the Australian light welterweight title after Addisu Tebebu retired at the end of the 6th round with a hand injury in a fight at the Melbourne Pavilion in Flemington, Victoria.
The 27 year old Amonsot improved his record to 23-3-3 with 13 knockouts following the win while the 32 year old Tebebu dropped to 5-3-3 with 1 knockout.
Amonsot tipped the scales at 138.4 pounds at the official weigh-in while Tebebu came in just under the light welterweight limit at 139.9 pounds.
Since moving to Australia, Amonsot has fought just once a year after winning the vacant WBO Asia Pacific lightweight title with a 2nd round knockout of Thailand?s Sirichai Ekchumpol on September 23, 2010.
Amonsot is best remembered for his gallant battle against Australia?s Michael Katsidis for the WBO Interim lightweight title at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on July 21, 2007 which Katsidis won in a bloody, action-packed bout.
In a post fight medical Amonsot was found to have a speck of blood outside the brain and was not allowed to continue fighting.
But after a check-up in the Philippines he was cleared to fight but after three successful bouts in the country Amonsot met with an accident and ALA Promotions didn?t wish to risk continuing to promote his fights resulting in the talented southpaw leaving for Australia and fighting out of Sydney.
