Pan Asia Boxing Association and WBA No.4 ranked Randy ?Razor? Petalcorin has been lined up for a WBA Interim title fight against Thailand?s No. 3 ranked Wisanu Kokietgym which will also serve as a title eliminator.
Petalcorin?s co-manager, well known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis relayed the information to the Manila Standard after Petalcorin was held to an 8th round majority technical draw by Rene Patilano after Petalcorin suffered a nasty cut above his eye following an accidental clash of heads.
Referee Silvestre Abainza called a halt at 2:29 of the round and went to the judges scorecards.
Greg Ortega and Gil Co both turned in identical scorecards of 76-76 while the third judge Danrex Tapdasan had Patliano ahead 77-75.
Maniatis told the Standard that he and partner Jim Manangquil had to pay the entire sanction fee, the purses of both fighters and the fees of the PABA officials in order to get Petalcorin a fight after an eight-month lapse.
Maniatis said ?the fight was very good and Patilano is a very talented boxer and fought well. He said the game plan was to take Patilano into the later rounds and look for a stoppage late in the fight as Patilano had never fought past 10 rounds before, but the fight was stopped when Petalcorin suffered a bad cut.
The promoter said Petalcorin now ?has to take a few months off fighting to let the cut heal properly. He said they had also decided not to have stitches into the cut and would rather let it heal naturally which was what a lot of the old school boxers did when cut.?
Maniatis told us "Randy Petalcorin is only 21 years old and to keep fighting local talented boxers who have nothing to lose and a chance to get a WBA #4 ranked scalp under there belt, leaves Petalcorin at a disadvantage. It's time to step up now for Petalcorin and he proved he is World Class when he dropped tough Thailander Smartlek Chaiyonggym 3 times en route to a lopsided unanimous decision in a PABA title defense on April 21, 2012.
The 21 year old Petalcorin has a record of 19-1-1- with 14 knockouts while Patilano is 7-1-2 with 3 knockouts.
