Broner-Rees Undercard Results from Atlantic City

Atlantic City, NJ - The City by the Sea plays host to one of boxing's upcoming superstar, Adrian Broner in a twelve round title fight against United Kingdom's Gavin Rees at the Boardwalk Hall Arena.
The following are the results of the bouts supporting the main event of the night.
HERRING vs. LOPEZ
The night opened with 2012 US Olympian Jamel Herring winning a 3rd round TKO victory over fellow Junior Welterweight, Carlos Lopez (4-2) of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Herring pummeled Lopez in the 3rd round, unleashing heavy blows on his opponent's head that shook Lopez. The doctor at ringside checked on Lopez after that round and advised Referee Samuel Viruet to stop the fight granting Herring the second win of his young career and his first knockout victory at that.
EASTER JR. vs. VALDERRAMA
The night ended early for another Puerto Rican fighter as Jose Valderrama (3-3, 3 KOs) suffered a bad cut after an exciting action in the 1st round of his Lightweight fight with Robert Easter Jr. of Toledo, Ohio.
Easter Jr. (2-0, 2 KOs) scored a TKO win after the fight was stopped due to the cut on Valderrama which was a result of a legal punch.
WARREN vs. HERNANDEZ
Another US Olympian scored victory tonight as Bantamweight Rau'Shee Warren scored the third knockout in as many fights of his young career with a 2nd round stoppage over winless Richard Fernandez (0-5) of Lockhart, Texas.
Warren of Cincinnati, Ohio sent his smaller opponent to the canvas twice in Round 2 from two straight left hands that prompted Fernandez's corner to climb the ring and called a stop to the fight.
The referee gladly halted the proceedings at the 2:04 mark of the second round.
ESCOBEDO vs. CHERRY
Rugged 130 pound campaigner, Edner Cherry (30-6-2, 16 KOs) gained the biggest victory of his career with an upset of former amateur standout and title challenger, Vicente Escobedo (26-3, 15 KOs) of Woodland, CA.
Escobedo suffered his second consecutive defeat after losing in the hands of tonight's headliner, Adrian Broner in July of last year. He was dropped at the end of the the 2nd round with a well timed right hand from Cherry.
Cherry then attacked his opponent's head and body with shots that rattled Escobedo after the knockdown.
Cherry, originally from The Bahamas but now resides and trains out of Miami, scored two more knockdowns in the final seconds of the 6th round from a body and head combination that sent Escobedo to the floor again.
Escobedo barely recovered from the first dropping and the the second one ended all hopes of him continuing the fight.
HOPKINS vs. WHITTAKER
Philadelphia's own, Demetrius Hopkins (32-2-1, 12 KOs) forced his opponent Charles Whittaker (39-13-2, 23 KOs) of Miami, Florida to quit in his stool to win a regional Junior Middleweight belt.
Hopkins who is the nephew of famous boxer, Bernard Hopkins sent Whittaker to the canvas in the 4th round with a powerful overhand right that woke up the booing audience in the arena. He used effective jabbing and accurate punching against Whittaker who was on the receiving end for most of their 12 round bout.
Whittaker did not bother to come out of his corner after the 6th round enabling Hopkins to win via TKO and the USBA belt in the process.
BIKA vs. SJEKLOCA
The worldwide broadcast from HBO started with a WBC Super Middleweight Title Eliminator between Sydney Australia's Sakio Bika (30-5-2, 21 KOs) and Nikola Sjekloca (25-0, 7 KOs) of Budva, Montenegro.
Bika, a former product of the The Contender TV show earned another crack at the title by beating his European opponent in the ring and in the score cards of all three judges at ringside in tonight's co-headlining bout.
Bika pounded on Sjekloca who has no answer to the punishment placed on him in their scheduled twelve rounder. Sjekloca was in trouble early in the fight, when Bika connected with big uppercuts that dazed his foe in round 2. He wobbled Sjekloca again in the 4th courtesy of his right hooks.
Sjekloca never went down despite that and survived those rounds and the fight on his feet.
The scores were 119-109, 118-112, 120-108 all for the fighter from "Down Under."
