Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera will be at ringside when WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes defends his title against Mexico?s WBO minimum weight champion Moises Fuentes at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu on March 2.

ALA Promotions president Michal Aldeguer told the Manila Standard that Barrera?s brother Jorge Barrera handles Fuentes and that the former world champion who fought Manny Pacquiao twice and lost by an 11th round TKO in their first fight and a unanimous twelve round decision in a rematch, ?is very much involved? with Fuentes.

The lanky Fuentes who is 27, has a record of 16-1 with 8 knockouts and won the minimum weight title with a twelve round split decision over Raul ?Rayito? Garcia on August 27, 2011 and defended it successfully with a 5th round TKO of Ivan Calderon of Puerto Rico on October 6, 2012.

Nietes on the other hand is 30 and holds a record of 31-1-3 with 17 knockouts but will be giving away several inches in both height and reach against the challenger who reportedly stands 5?7 ??.

Nietes last defended his title against tough Felipe Salguero of Mexico and won a twelve round unanimous decision at the Resort World Hotel in Manila on June 2, 2012 which was the same day that Fuentes scored a 1st round knockout of Julio Cesar Felix who went down from two vicious body shots.

We have met Barrera at the fights of WBO, Ring Magazine and WBC Golden Belt super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire since Barrera sits on the Mexican television panel often with Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.

The accommodating and likable Barrera is expected to be a hit in Cebu with fans hoping that Pacquiao will be in Cebu to welcome Barrera and join him at the fights which will be telecast by ABS-CBN in its highly successful ?Pinoy Pride? series telecast over Channel 2, replayed on Studio 23 and also telecast over The Filipino Channel which is extremely popular with Filipino communities abroad.

Barrera and his brother Jorge as well as trainer Aaron Dominguez along with Fuentes and his brother Heriberto ?Concha? Fuentes are expected in Cebu at the end of February according to Panamanian boxing writer Carlos Costa.
