DAVAO CITY -- The Buhay Kamao Foundation (BKF) has continued on its assistance program by helping a veteran matchmaker in boxing, who was hospitalized recently in Manila.

BKF president Yolanda ?Ate Yoly? Alfante gave an initial cash assistance of P5,000 to 78-year old Jimmy Narvaez, who was rushed to the hospital because of his lung problems.

Narvaez, who bikes every Sunday morning, vomited blood after he tried to carry steel bars that were at the side of his mountain bike in their house in Sta. Mesa. Narvaez was confined for two weeks in the hospital and is now recuperating.

?And dami kong gamot at vitamins na iniinom ngayon,? Narvaez said in interview held recently at the Makati Cinema Square in Makati City.

BKF, a non-profit organization aimed to help Philippine boxing, will try to ask its honorary chairman Rep. Emmanuel ?Pacman? Pacquiao to also help Narvaez?s medication.

Last year, BKF had also donated P5,000 to former Orient Pacific champion Rolando Aldemir of Davao City, who suffered an injury due to a motorcycle accident. BKF also gave P10,000 financial assistance to the family of the late boxer Jog Alim of Malita, Davao del Sur, who died after winning his fight.

As a matchmaker, Narvaez was able to give Pacquiao more than 20 fights mostly held in the Blow by Blow TV show since January 22, 1995.

Narvaez, however, did not start as matchmaker but as a manager when he entered boxing in 1964. He later became a trainer and handled many fighters including the Orient Pacific champion Rey Tam of Baguio City.

Narvaez also made his first trip to the United States when he fought for the World Boxing Council super-featherweight crown but lost by a 5th round TKO to Alexis Arguelles at the Forum in Inglewood, California in April 29, 1978.

Narvaez has also travelled to the other different countries as he worked with different managers like Almante, Totoy Ramos, Dante Almario, Wacky Salud, the late Clarito Samson, Gilbert Della, Jay San Pedro and Jun Sarreal (who promoted three title-fights for the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation last Jan. 9 in Mandaluyong City).

"Si Clarito ang bumuhay ulit sa boxing sa Pilipinas noon," said Narvaez, who is also the PBF secretary and ratings chairman.
BKF, on the other hand, is soon planning to give Narvaez a citation for his vast contributions to Philippine boxing.
?For me, he is a living legend. He is like a walking boxing encyclopaedia,? said boxing promoter-manager Joel ?Joe Boss? Ostria of Taytay, Rizal.

Alfante?s Shock Punch Boxing Promotion has also chosen Narvaez to be the matchmaker of its upcoming boxing promotion set on March 22 at the Makati Square Cinema for the benefit of the BKF.
