DAVAO City -- Five fake Php1,000 bills were paid by a boxing promoter to the officials of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) here after a boxing promotion in Maragusan, Compostela Valley province last November 22.
GAB field supervisor Romy Flordeliza said that they received the five fake bills from boxing promoter Wilfredo Neri, who is a veteran promoter from Davao.
Neri, who paid it for the GAB officiating fees said that he didn?t know that the money were fake. He intends to show it back to Maragusan Mayor Arsenio Yanong according to Flordeliza.
GAB officer-in-charge Jimmy Mata, however, said that Neri must first pay his obligation to their office before they will return the fake moneys to the boxing promoter, who is also a policeman.
?Hindi na namin problema kung may natanggap siya na fake kasi hindi kami ang promoter. Our task was only to officiate,? said Flordeliza, who only learned about it when he used one of it to pay a gasoline station in Buhangin already the following morning.
Flordeliza got the money from Neri after the boxing at past 2 a.m. of Nov. 23.
"Wala na nako na-tsek kay nagsalig man ko ug abi nako bago lang," he said.
Flordeliza had already given two of the fake bills to his referees, who also informed him later about the fake money.
He added that they even didn?t require Neri to first pay the cash bond to their office just to push through with the boxing promotion held in celebration of the fiesta of Maragusan.
The main event saw Maragusan-native Edward Apa-ap of the Willy Neri Stable scoring a sensational first round technical knockout against Nathan Barcelona in the last 28 seconds of the first round.
Barcelona was leading on points in the first two minutes during a trade of blows. But Apa-ap managed to connect a vicious left hook in the midsection to send Barcelona down on his knees and was counted out by referee Elizardo Resma.
Flordeliza said that Neri promised to replace the fake money today at the GAB office.
