EARLY RESULTS FROM NEW YORK: KNOCKOUTS RAIN IN THE BIG APPLE

New York, NY ? Boxing starts 2013 with a big triple header of championship fights in no less than the biggest city in the world and the sister venue of what is considered, The Mecca of Boxing.
The Theatre at Madison Square Garden in midtown Manhattan plays host to three title fights in various weight divisions of the sport which is carried live all over the world by various TV networks.
Here are the results of the exciting undercard fights here in the Big Apple.
ELLIS REMAINS UNDEFEATED AGAINST TYNER
The night of fisticuffs started with undefeated Ronald Ellis (6-0,5 KOs) of Lynn, MA scoring a shutout win over fellow Super Middleweight ,Steven Tyner 3-9-2 ,2 KOs) of Akron, OH. Ellis, who is trained by popular trainer Robert Garcia, was the busier and accurate fighter between the two. He dominated Tyner with hard head shots and body work in the 4- round fight. His activity reflected in all of the three judges? cards in a bout that opened the big night of action here in New York.
The scores were three identical cards of 40-36 at ringside.
ZEWSKI TKO?S HOSKINS
Rising welterweight prospect, Mikael Zewski scored an impressive TKO win over Brandon Hoskins (16-3-1,8 KOs) of Hannibal MO in the second offering of the night.
Zewski of Trois-Rivieres, Canada, outpointed and outpunched his game foe in the first three rounds of their six-round welterweight bout before finishing him in round number 4. The undefeated Canadian fighter hit Hoskins in the 4th with a right- left combo that floored the former three times in the round.
Hoskins stood up from the first two knockdowns but Referee Gary Rosato halted the fight after Hoskins suffered the 3rd and final knockdown.
Zewski improved his unbeaten record to 18 wins and 14 knockouts.
FERRANTE UPSETS AKBERBAYEV WITH A ONE PUNCH KO
A bruising and bloody Cruiserweight fight ensued between undefeated Isa Akberbayev (10-0, 7 KOs) of Almaty, Kazakhstan and Philadelphia?s `Anthony Ferrante (12-4, 7 KOs) in the 3rd bout of the night.
Both fighters exchanged 1st round knockdowns in what proved to be a hard-hitting fight between the two big guys.
Akberbayev and Ferrante exchanged heavy shots in the succeeding rounds after that initial salvo, leaving Akberbayev?s left eye bloodied while Ferrante?s face is swollen in the early stages of the fight. Both fighters continued their hard brand of action which thrilled the already large audience that came early to witness tonight?s event.
The fight ended with a bang in the 10th and final round when Ferrante caught Akberbayev with a vicious right hook that knocked the Kazakh fighter cold. Akberbayev fell face first in the canvass and was motionless for a good amount of time as his corner and the doctors at ringside rushed to revive him.
Akberbayev was able to regain consciousness and walked out of the arena on his own but he suffered the first defeat and knockout loss of his young career.
Ferrante?s knockout punch came at the 1:19 mark of the 10th which gave him the IBO Intercontinental Cruiserweight as a result of his upset win.
FORMER PACQUIAO SPAR MATE TAPIA WINS WITH TKO OVER BRUCE
Former Manny Pacquiao spar mate, GlenTapia (16-0, 9 KOs) maintained his immaculate record with a 2nd round TKO of Ayi Bruce (14-8, 8 KOs) of Albany, NY.
Tapia, who resides from nearby Passaic, NJ dropped Bruce with a strong right in the 2nd round of their scheduled 8 round Super Welterweight bout. Bruce beat the mandatory eight count but was unable to survive Tapia?s onslaught after the knockdown.
Referee David Fields immediately halted the fight after Bruce was unable to answer Tapia?s blows in the 2:33 mark of the 2nd round.
VERDEJO TKO?S ARMCHAMBAULT IN 21 SECONDS
Former Olympian Felix Verdejo of San Juan, Puerto Rico needed only 21 seconds to stop fellow lightweight fighter, Tom Archambault (1-3-0-1, 1 KO) of Bismarck, ND.
Verdejo jumped at his opponent early and stunned him with two left hooks that landed in Archambault?s torso and head in the early moments of the scheduled 4 rounder.
Archambault stood up to answer Referee Gary Rosato?s count but was obviously dazed after his dropping. Rosato stopped the fight immediately after seeing Archambault?s condition.
Verdejo improves his young career to 2-0 and 1 KO.
MONAGHAN MAINTAINS PERFECT RECORD IN FRONT OF HOMETOWN FANS
Hometown favorite Sean Monaghan (16-0, 10 KOs) and Roger Cantrell (15-2, 8 KOs) of Puyallup, WA engaged in another exciting and hard battle to cap tonight?s undercard fights. The two game Light Heavyweight fighters figured in a fan-pleasing eight round brawl that electrified the sold-out venue.
Both fighters emerged bloodied and bruised after the fight which Monaghan won by the way of a Unanimous Decision victory with scores of 77-75, 78-74 and 79-73.
Monaghan who hails from Long Beach, New York improved his unbeaten record to 17 wins in front of his hometown fans.
