World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has bucked criticism about the title defense of WBC junior flyweight champion Adrian ?Confesor? Hernandez against Panama?s Dirceu Cabarca and said it was ?a very good fight.?

Sulaiman was responding to boxing writer Ron Jackson who, in a pre-fight article on Super Sport in South Africa, said the 27 year old Cabarca was ranked No. 21 by the WBC and ?questions should be asked about the sanctioning of the fight.?

Jackson noted that Cabarca ?had never been beyond eight rounds and had fought outside Panama only once.?

However, the challenger went the distance although he lost by a lopsided margin in Toluca, Mexico with all three judges scoring the fight for Hernandez who was in command throughout.

The scores were Chris Tellez 118-110, Burt Clements 118-108 and Michael Tate 119-112. The referee was Gary Ritter.

Hernandez sustained cuts over his left eye and the bridge of his nose as a result of head-butts but was never in danger.

Sulaiman claimed Hernandez ?had problems with the speed? of Cabarca, adding ?it was an entertaining and absolutely not a one-sided fight.?
