No less than Manny Pacquiao?s personal physician refuted rumors and concerns that the boxer is suffering from early stages of Parkinson?s disease.

Dr. Regina Bagsic told GMA NEWS that Pacquiao demonstrates no signs and symptoms of the ailment that has afflicted some popular personalities of boxing that included the boxer?s trainer, Freddie Roach.

Bagsic was joined by Dr. Roland Dominic Jamora, a neurologist who is the former head of St. Luke Medical Center?s Movement Disorder Center at Quezon City and Global City in the Philippines in dismissing an earlier report that the boxer is exhibiting early onset Parkinsonism.

Dr. Jamora, in an interview with GMA NEWS?s Manolo Trinidad explained what to expect from a person with the ailment.

The distinguished neurologist stated that a doctor makes a diagnosis of Parkinson?s disease when a patient demonstrates symptoms of resting tremor, slowness, unilateral onset and stiffness or rigidity.

?He (Pacquiao) has none of the things that Doctor (Jamora) mentioned,? Dr. Bagsic assured.

Concern for the Filipino superstar? health came about after recent news reports surfaced when another Filipino neurologist; Dr. Rustico Jimenez speculated that Pacquiao may have early signs of Parkinson?s disease.

Dr. Jimenez based his claim on his observation that Pacquiao showed signs of hand twitching during his television interviews. (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/01/03/13/pacquiao-showing-early-signs-parkinsons-disease)

Dr. Bagsic stated that she is in ?personal communication? with the head of the Trauma Center of the University of Nevada Medical Center where Pacquiao was hospitalized after suffering a concussion as a result of his knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last December.

?He was given a clear bill of health,? relayed Dr. Bagsic of the doctors who saw Pacquiao in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao also underwent an immediate MRI at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in Manila, which was negative for any head injuries following his arrival to the country four days after his fight with Marquez.

Dr. Bagsic quoted the reader of Pacquiao?s MRI result that ?he has never seen a brain so pristine.?

Dr. Bagsic also cautioned that Pacquiao?s profession as a boxer puts him at risk for diseases that afflict the head and the brain due to the nature of the sport.

?It?s an occupational hazard. It?s his call,? Dr. Bagsic commented.
