Sonny Boy Jaro.
Puerto Rico's PR Best Boxing Promotions has accepted the proposal of former WBC flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro's manager, former boxer Aljoe Jaro, that instead of a title fight, Jaro will face WBO Latino champion McWilliams Arroyo in a ten-round non title fight at 114 pounds.
The fight card headlined by the return of former WBO featherweight champiin Juan Manuel ?Juanma? Lopez vs Brazil?s Aldimar Silva Santos will also feature Filipino southpaw Al Sabaupan and will take place at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on February 2.
30 year old Sonny Boy Jaro who has a record of 34-11-5 with 24 knockouts had originally refused to fight at the 112 pound limit in a title fight because of the short notice to battle Arroyo, the reigning WBO Latino flyweight champion who has a record of 13-1 with 11 knockouts.
Jaro won the WBC flyweight crown with a stunning 6th round TKO over longtime champion and WBC ?Fighter of the Decade? Pongsaklek Wonjongkam on March 2, 2012 but lost the title by a split decision to Japan?s Toshiyuki Igarashi on July 16, 2012.
Arroyo won the Latino title with a ten round unanimous decision over Luis Maldonado of Mexico on March 10, 2012. Maldonado is the same fighter who lost by an 8th round TKO in an IBF/IBO flyweight title fight against Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire on December 1, 2007.
Arroyo who is ranked No. 6 by the WBO is coming off a 5th round TKO over Ronald Ramos in a title defense last September 27.
The 24 year old Sabaupan, also a southpaw like Jaro, who has a record of 20-1-1 with 15 knockouts will battle for the WBO Latino lightweight title held by 29 year old Jose ?Chelo? Gonzalez, another Puerto Rican who is undefeated with an impressive record of 21-0 with 16 knockouts.
