Fans want a Pacquiao-Marquez rematch

DAVAO CITY -- Boxing fans in the Philippines want another rematch between Philippine boxing icon and Saranggani Rep. Manny Pacquiao and Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez, who scored a shocking sixth round knockout in their quadrilogy Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM in Las Vegas, Nevada.
?I want a rematch. I want Pacman (Pacquiao) to retire in an impressive win against Marquez,? said radio commentator Marlon Gayog of dxUM Radyo Ukay, who saw the pay-per-view fight at the Royal Mandaya Hotel.
Gayog, an elected director of the Sports Communicators Organization of the Phils. (SCOOP) Davao, said that ?Pacquiao is just an ordinary boxer who can also experience defeat but he is also an extra-ordinary boxer for being an 8-division world title."
?Manny has made a statement and he wants a rematch like us,? said Romy ?Amay? Neri, elder brother of Pacquiao?s personal chef and assistant trainer Raniel ?Nonoy? Neri.
?It was just a lucky punch by Marquez. I?ll go for another rematch,? said Bibs Jalandoni, who had organized a pay-per-view showing for the benefit of the Alpha Phi Omega (APO) International Fraternity Inc. in Davao City.

Pacquiao?s former assistant trainer Luisito ?Baby? Tinagsa of Digos City, however, does not believe that the change on the religion was the reason why the congressman from Sarangani Province lost by a knockout.
?Grabe very devastating. But no it's not religion. Sa tingin ko nagkaron lang ug lapses sa pag basa sa kalaban. Naa na sa iya ang instict sa tapuson ang kalaban. Imagine only 10 remaining seconds remaining na lang in that reound na daug na siya unta. Nagpasagad ug opensiya. Naay lapses sa pag balense. I?m convince na nasa good condition si Manny,? Tinagsa said.
He added: ?Basig dunay pressure sa coaching staff na tapuson dayon ang dula. Pero there?s a big possibility for another rematch.?

Davao City Sports Council president Ben Sur agrees with another rematch. "We should give him (Pacquiao) a chance to redeem himself. But he must regain his speed and power," said Sur, also a martial arts practitioner.
Lawyer Joey Felizarta, chief of the Davao City Environment and Natural Resources (Cenro) and president of the APO Alumni Association (Andaa) said that Pacquiao "should choose which dreams he will pursue whether a boxer or a politician."
It was Marquez?s first win in their four encounter. The 39-year-old Mexican lost twice and drawn once in his three previous fights against the 33-year-old Pacquiao.
With just a second left in the round, Marquez's stinging right hand sent Pacquiao face first to the canvas. In the post-fight interview, Pacquiao hinted he was not going to retire anytime soon, saying he will rest for a while but "after a few months, back to training and back to fight." (LITO DELOS REYES)
