EARLY RESULTS FROM LAS VEGAS: Ernie Sanchez scores first win for the Philippines

Las Vegas, NV- Ernie Sanchez of General Santos City opened the evening of fights here at the MGM Grand Arena with a convincing win over his American foe.

Sanchez, 20, won by the way of a Unanimous Decision over Coy Evans, 28, of Philadelphia, PA in their scheduled 8 round bout. Sanchez knocked down Evans in the 3rd with a hard right cross that pushed back his counterpart across the ring. Evans recovered but Sanchez pummeled him with shots to the body and head after the knockdown but Evans survived the round.

Sanchez was hurt in the 5th by an uppercut and held on to Evans to prevent further damage. He replied with good combination to the head and finished the round with a nice right straight.

Sanchez finished the fight smart by landing combos on Evans and then moving away to avoid being countered. The fighter from General Santos City got the nod of all three officials at ringside with a 78-73 (twice) and 77-74 scores to ink the UD win.
