Undefeated Filipino southpaw Mercito ?No Mercy? Geeta (26-0-1, 14 KO's) plans to dominate Miguel Vazquez (32-3-13 KO's) of Mexico from the opening bell in their IBF lightweight title fight on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez IV at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 9, Manila Time.
Trainer and co-manager Vince Parra told the Manila Standard they have ?a real good plan in place and we expect victory. The plan is aggressive obviously, and we?re looking at taking this fight one round at a time, dominating each round. We are looking to make an entertaining fight and come out on top by decision or knockout.?
Parra said he expects ?a very technical, fast-paced fight. From our standpoint we'll fight our fight and win.?
He said Gesta had broken training camp in Big Bear and they are in San Diego prior to leaving for Las Vegas on Monday.
He said ?I couldn?t have asked for more of him in training. He put in an effort like I?ve never seen since being involved with him in his last ten fights.?
Parra said ?I am extremely confident in our preparations. He had great sparring, great focus and condition-wise he is in the best shape of his life as far as I can tell.?
In his last sparring session Gesta did "four real nice technique and dramatic rounds with undefeated 5'10" Cuban Races Barthelemy (17-0, 11 KO's). The plan is in place, he?s focused and his weight is perfect, he?s right where we want him to be. He finished up around 139-140 pounds and when we get into Vegas he?ll go for a nice little brisk run and shake out of it. We expect to be in Vegas around 138.?
Parra said Gesta ?feels good, feels strong, he hasn?t struggled (with his weight) which is the main thing for me.?
Vazquez is considered an awkward fighter whose only two losses were unanimous ten rounds decisions to current WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley on July 27, 2007 and WBC light middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on June 28, 2008.
