MANDAUE CITY BOXING TEAM DOMINATES BATANG PINOY

Tacloban City -- Team Mandaue City showed great dominance as it bag 7 gold medals of the recently concluded boxing event of Batang Pinoy 2012 Visayas leg at the Capitol gym in this capital city of Leyte province. The 3-day slugfest was participated by 8 teams comprising 46 boxers from different areas in the Visayas region. This will be the last regional zone championships as winners get a chance to compete with higher stakes in the Batang Pinoy National Championships in Ilo-ilo City next month.

Raymond Tarona started Mandaue City's winning ways with a RSC (referee stopped contest) win over Ramil Pingol of Leyte in 28 kg. Next came Jomar Caspe's WP (win on points) vs Diether Casida of Leyte in 32 kgs. Vicente Seos-e WP Joshua Orello of Maasin City in 34 kgs. Christian John Castanares RSC John Mark Escoton of Leyte in 36 kgs., Ramil Casanares WP Monsour Grullo of Maasin City in 40 kgs., Romel Tunacao RSC Jeffrey Orello of Maasin City in 42 kgs. and Jeffrey Estella RSC Mark Jay Grancioso of Northern Samar in 48 kgs. Marco Pomar and Rhezon Tarona got bronze for Mandaue in 44 and 46kgs, respectively. Coaches for Team Mandaue City include Rie Munez of ALA gym and Edcel Tunacao of Phil-Aust boxing gym.

On the other hand, Team Cebu City took home gold courtesy of John Paul Tanudra in 30 kgs., silver by Herjie Gemida in 38 kgs. and bronze medals by Joldian Dopalco, John Lloyd Trasporte and Jeffrey Calvo.

Other gold medalist include Jerry Pandac of Leyte, John Smith Gonzales, Kenjie Tamaca and last year's Batang Pinoy Visayas leg "Best boxer" awardee Mario Bautista of Negros.
