Fernando ?Trigger? Lumacad 27-4-3 (12 KOs) makes his second trip to Mexico this year to aim at another shot of one of their fighters.
Lumacad 26, will face unbeaten Carlos Cuadras 26-0 (22 KOs) at the Foro Polanco arena in Mexico City. The bout will be for Cuadras? WBC Silver super flyweight title which Cuadras won in September.
Lumacad arrived in Mexico City last Tuesday and immediately went to the WBC gym to train and get acclimated to his environment.
Lumacad shadow boxed, hit the bags, skipped the rope and run at the gym?s treadmill on their first day of arrival in the country?s capital.
Trainer, John Ray Manangquil who accompanied Lumacad from the Philippines told Philboxing.com that his ward is trying to get acclimated to Mexico City?s weather and altitude.
?Okay naman condition ni Tata (Lumacad?s nickname), ang problema lang talaga ay yung panahon lang talaga, pati yung klima.?
(Tata?s conditioning is okay. The only problem is the weather and the climate here.) Manangquil said.
?Parang ang hirap huminga dito.? (It is hard to breathe here.) added the trainer.
But he is confident that Lumacad?s training in the Philippines will help him as fight week progresses.
?Me baon tayong hangin at stamina dahil okay ang training natin sa Gen San (General Santos).? (Our stamina is good because we had a good training in Gen. San) Manangquil remarked.
Manangquil said that Lumacad is currently six pounds over the limit at 121 lbs. but is confident that his fighter will make the weight for the 115 pound bout.
Lumacad also expressed that making weight will not be a problem for him and expressed confidence to achieve the desired limit on Friday during the weigh-in.
?Kayang kaya makuha ang timbang.? (I am sure I can make weight.) said the boxer who also shared the complaint of his trainer about having a hard time breathing in the thin Mexico air.
?Nag-aadapt kami sa panahon at klima. Mahirap huminga, mahirap sa dibdib.? (We are adapting to the weather and the climate. It is hard ti breathe, hard on the chest.) verbalized the boxer.
The boxer said that he feels great and that he has prepared really well in the Philippines before coming to Mexico to challenge Cuadras.
Lumacad lost a close 10 round Majority Decision bout against Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez last July 14th in Sinaloa, Mexico. He bounced back to the win column by knocking out countryman Ronnie Sunido last August in Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines.
The boxer from General Santos City is not worried to be fighting away from home and against a fighter fighting in his hometown. He is confident that his training and planning will be the key against Cuadras.
?Hindi naman ako nag-worry kasi maganda naman ang training ko.?(I am not worried because my training went well.) Lumacad expressed.
Lumacad will meet Cuadras for the first time tomorrow at a scheduled press conference and will continue his training afterwards.
