Journeyman Roilo Golez has lost in his bid to win the WBO Oriental flyweight title in a bruising battle with No. 5 world ranked Kwanpichit OnesongchaiGym (18-0-1,6 KOs) at Western University in Pathumthani, Thailand.
Kwanpichit whose birth name is Prasitsak Papoem fights for the big OneSingchai Promotions headed by Parayakorn Ratanasuban, won by a comfortable margin on the scorecards of all three Thai judges. Surat Soikrachang scored it 117-112, Sanweang Vittayapitak 116-112 and Narongsak Boonyamalik 116-112.
The 25 year old Golez, nicknamed ?The Phoenix? failed to rise from two defeats in Mexico where he lost by a 7th round TKO to former world champion Edgar Sosa in a WBC International title fight last January 7 after previously suffering a 5th round TKO against Sammy Gutierrez in a clash f or the vacant WBC light flyweight Silver title on October 1, 2011.
With the loss Golez dropped to 14-9 with 5 knockouts.
The 31 yewar old Kwanpichit won the WBO Oriental flyweight title with a 5th round knockout of Noel Adelmita on May 4 this year and successfully defended his title with a twelve round unanimous decision over another Filipino Fernando Ocon last August 24.
Thai boxing writer Damrong Simakajornboon said it was ?exciting as both fighters alternately landed big bombs in an entertaining, see-saw battle.?
He said the Thai champion was slightly ahead in the first four rounds with good body shots that appeared to weaken Golez but the Filipino fought back with some good counter-punches to take rounds five and six.
Kwanpichit regained control beginning the seventh round and almost dropped Golez in round eight with a strong combination . However, Golez battled back in round ten. Catching the champion with big left hooks that almost dropped Kwanpichit in round ten.
However, Kwanpichit recovered and nailed Golez with a vicious left hook and took control in the championship rounds eleven and twelve to gain the nod of all three judges.
