World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman has praised the three judges who officiated in the WBC super featherweight title fight in which Mexico's Gamaliel Diaz upset defending champion Takahiro Ao of Japan at the Tokyo International Forum on October 27.
The three judges were Steve Morrow who scored the fight for Diaz 115-111, Glen Rice Crocker who had the Mexican winning 114-112 and Thailand's Anek Hongtongkam who turned in the same score, also for Diaz, giving the Mexican challenger a well-deserved victory over a bloodied Ao.
Sulaiman said "Diaz's victory in a foreign country shows the impartiality of the WBC judges around the world."
By all accounts it was an outstanding title fight that kept fight fans on the edge of their seats throughout the twelve round battle.
Sulaiman commended Diaz and said he "achieved a great deed in becoming world champion in Japan."
The WBC president has consistently sought to get local US Commissions, especially the Nevada State Athletic Commission to allow the fight sanctioning body like the WBC to name the officials for title fights but to no avail.
