Women's volleyball hopes to get a major boost next year when TV 5 Sports teams up with Sportscore Event Management and Consultancy (SCORE) to launch the first professional women's volleyball league in the country.

To be titled Premiere Volleyball League or PVL, the newest volleyball league aims to be the biggest in the Philippines.

Right now the major volleyball league is the very successful Shakey's V League which is handled by the Sports Vision Group headed by veteran sports people Moying Martelino, Ricky Palou and longtime volleyball official Tony Liao.

The PVL hopes to recruit some of the best collegiate volleyball players and hopefully raise the quality of the game even further.

TV 5 Executive Vice President and COO Roberto "Bobby" Barreiro said "We hope that through this effort, we can help the country in becoming a volleyball powerhouse in Asia.?

SCORE which is headed by international volleyball official Ramon ?Tats? Suzara, will oversee league operations when the PVL begins in January 2013.

Suzara has long been involved in volleyball and is currently the Chairman of the Development and Marketing Committee of the Asian Volleyball Confederation and FIVB World Grand Prix Supervisor.

Suzara believes ?This is the best time to have a volleyball league in the country, with an ever-growing following for the sport. SCORE and TV5 look forward to having more Filipinos appreciate volleyball."

The official venue of the matches will be the PhilSports Arena (formerly ULTRA) in Pasig City, while Sports5, the sports arm of TV5, will handle broadcast production. The games will air on free television channel AKTV on IBC13 and on 24/7 sports cable channel HYPER.
