Outstanding amateur boxer Charly Suarez who was painfully denied a chance to fight in the London Olympic Games has been recruited by defending World Series of Boxing champions Milano Thunder which is sponsored by the internationally acclaimed Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana.
Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines executive director Ed Picson told the Manila Standard that they are currently working on the visa of Suarez and that the Italian Embassy has been very cooperative.
Picson said Suarez who last fought for the Mumbai Tigers and scored some big wins in the tournament was invited to join the Milano Thunder in the first week of this month.
He said Suarez who is a dedicated fighter has been ?training every day since June and is in great shape.?
The Milano Thunder will train at their own Thunder Gym in Milan under head coach Frencesco Damiani who faces the challenge of training a multi-national boxing team to compete for an entire season.
Damiani on the team?s website said ?It?s a new challenge that I?m happy to accept and I?m looking forward to taking on with assistants such as Sergiy Korchinskyy from the Ukraine and former professional world title challenger Gianfranco Rossi.?
The coach said ?As a trainer, you always have a motivation: this is something new and never seen before. This opportunity of the World Series of Boxing will give the boys media exposure and, to some extent, do them justice, since they are often overlooked. And I'm convinced that Milan will be a perfect stage for this event, given its boxing history."
In what was described as ?the pinnacle of the World Series of Boxing season, Dynamo Moscow and Dolce & Gabbana Milano Thunder battledit out in a packed ExCeL arena in London - the venue of the 2012 Olympic Games - for the WSB Team Final. Huge crowds had gathered in anticipation for the competition's debut on British soil as boxing fans came out in force to witness the best of Olympic fighters taking to the ring for five sensational bouts?
