WBO/IBF super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire is showing ?unbelievable strength? according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum as he prepares for his clash with Japan?s WBC Diamond Belt champion Toshiaki Nishioka.
The fight will take place on October 14 (Manila Time) at the Home Depot Center in Carson City, California where he won the IBF super bantamweight title with a comfortable 12 round decision over Jeffrey Mathebula and will be telecast over ABS-CBN Channel 2 at 10:15 a.m.
Arum told the Manila Standard that trainer Robert Garcia was very pleased with Donaire?s condition and disclosed that the classy fighter who is in the top five of Ring Magazine?s pound for pound rankings was showing ?unbelievable strength.?
He said Donaire and Nishioka will workout on Wednesday at the Fortune Gym in Los Angeles of former heavyweight Justin Fortune a former strength and conditioning coach of ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao and a partner of trainer Freddie Roach before they had a disagreement.
The official weigh-in will be on Friday in Los Angeles ?probably at the ESPN restaurant while ESPN has really gotten behind the fight.?
Arum, at the same time said there is ?a lot of interest, real grassroots interest in the fight and everybody is excited while ESPN is giving him (Donaire) a lot of coverage.?
Donaire will be joined by trainer Garcia, manager Cameron Dunkin and Arum in an International Media Conference Call on Friday beginning at noon Pacific Time to discuss Donaire?s title showdown with Nishioka.
Donaire will enter the ring at the Home Depot Center riding an 11 fight winning streak while Nishioka boasts of an eight-year, 16 bout winning streak including eight world title fights.
