Drian Francisco.
Filipino fighter Drian Francisco 22-1 (17 KO) scored an impressive first round knockout of Mexican Jose Carlos Vargas 12-7-1 (7 KO) Saturday night at the Estadio Hector Espino in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
The 29 year old pugilist who trains out of Agoncillo, Batangas proved his heavy handedness once again when he finished Vargas inside the initial round of their fight with hard hooks to the head and body.
Francisco initially hit Vargas with a left hook to the body and then followed that up with a right to Vargas' head that dropped the Mexican right away.
Vargas got up after taking the mandatory eight count only to be on the receiving end of another series of left hooks from Francisco.
The Mexican once again beat the referee's count but not for long as Francisco who smelled blood attacked Vargas right after the break. A hard left hook to the head and a follow up left hook to the body sent Vargas to the canvass for the third time during the fight.
There is no getting up from this one as the referee counted Vargas out with plenty of time remaining in the round. A jubilant Francisco celebrated with his corner after his spectacular performance in enemy territory.
Francisco who is nicknamed "Gintong Kamao" or "Golden Fist" lived up to his moniker and improved to twenty three wins against a solitary lost with eighteen of them by stoppage.
