MAYOL TITLE FIGHT IN JEOPARDY

Former WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol's title fight against IBF super flyweight champion Juan Carlos Sanchez in Sinaloa, Mexico scheduled for September 22 (23 in Manila) is in jeopardy.

IBF Championship Committe Chairman Lindsey Tucker told the Manila Standard "we have not officially approved this fight because we still don't have the contracts. However, the Promoter, Zanfer Promotions has started the travel arrangements for the officials so I think they will provide the signed contracts."

Tucker made it clear that "If for some reason we don't get the signed contracts, there can be no fight for the IBF Title."

There were concerns that Fernando Beltran hadn't submitted the contracts because "Tyson" Marquez was having problems making the weight.

A similar problem occurred some months ago when WBA local officials and Marquez' people hid the fact that he was two pounds over the limit resulting in Mayol refusing to fight and Richie Mepranum stepping in to fight Marquez in a non-title overweight bout which Marquez won handily.

Koncz contacted the Manila Standard late Friday and said "Mayol's fight will proceed" but gave no further details.
