Las Vegas, NV - England's Matthew Macklin 28-4 (19 KOs) scored the first knock out of the night when he stopped Canadian Joachim Alcine 32-2-1 (19 KOs) in the first round of The Thomas & Mack Center.
Macklin, whose last fight was a TKO lost to Sergio Martinez in New York last March found his target early and never let up from then on. The fighter from Birmingham, England landed two strong lefts and a right hook on his foe which hurt and dropped Alcine.
The Montreal Middleweight got up gingerly from the count but was able to survived the mandatory eight by Referee Jay Nady.
But Alcine won't survive the onslaught he received from Macklin, just seconds after tasting the canvass. Macklin pounded mercilessly on his foe, landing squarely with both of his hands. Alcine was defenseless in a corner, when Nady had enough and halted the fight in favor of Macklin.
The furious action in the ring delighted the crowd at the arena which is slowly filling up as the main event nears. The time of stoppage was 2:36 of the 1st on what has been the shortest bout of the night so far.
