Passions are running high as the eagerly awaited battle between Mexico?s ?Son of the Legend? Julio Cesar Chavez Jr (46-0-1, 32 KO?s)against Argentine super middleweight Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez (49-2-2, 28 KO?s) at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on September 15.

Two-division world champion Martinez who is ranked No. 3 in Ring Magazine?s pound for pound list reportedly received threats from an unknown source and his promoter Lou DiBella claimed the car in front of his home was vandalized.

DiBella said ?Unfortunately, until we have a security team in place, we are going to have to suspend any and all public and media appearances for Sergio, including the upcoming media day scheduled for tomorrow in Oxnard. We apologize for the inconvenience to the media and fans that have planned on attending tomorrow?s event.?

Top Rank?s Bob Arum who is promoting the fight told the Manila Standard ?the Chavez-Martinez fight has become so big that young people get caught up in this whole thing and apparently somebody vandalized Martinez? car and he doesn?t want to do a media workout because they don?t have security. It is what it is but we are virtually sold out of tickets.?

He said ?this is a fight that raises passions on both sides but of course there are so many more Mexicans than there are Argentines.?

Arum said Chavez who is training with Hall-of-Famer Freddie Roach at the Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas ?is looking sensational.?
