Well known South African promoter Branco Milenkovic has added one more of his fighters to two others involved in IBF sanctioned fights in different countries on the same day indicating its ?D DAY? for Branco?s fighters.
Shortly after clinching the deal to have two South African fighters engage in IBF fights, the multi-awarded Milenkovic added IBF mini flyweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi (21-0-1, 15 KO?s) to the roster to defend his title against Mexico?s Mario Rodriguez in Mexico on Sunday morning, Manila Time.
Joyi will join IBF flyweight champion Moruti Mthalane (28-2, 19 KO?s) who will defend his title against Ricardo Nunez (24-2, 20 KO?s) in Panama as well as Zolani Tete (16-2, 14 KO?s) who will vie for the IBF junior bantamweight title eliminator against undefeated Argentinean Robert Sosa (23-0, 14 KO?s) in Cordoba, all on Sunday morning Manila Time.
Joyi, considered the best mini-flyweight in the world, will be making his third defense of the crown he won from Mexican Raul ?Rayito? Garcia in March 2010 after Garcia wrested the title in a controversial split decision against Filipino Florante ?Little Pacquiao? Condes in Garcia?s hometown of La Paz.
Joyi beat former world minimum weight champion Katsunari Takayama of Japan who is handled by ALA Promotions of the Philippines in a rematch by a unanimous twelve round decision on March 30, 2012 after their first fight ended in a third round no contest on January 29, 2011.
Joyi hurt his hand in the rematch, forcing the cancellation of a world title fight in Mexico last May.
With the injury now healed the undefeated 29 year old southpaw will fulfill his dream of fighting outside South Africa for the first time when he battles 23 year old challenger Rodriguez.
Rodriguez doesn?t have an imposing record while the strong, hard-hitting Joyi has looked impressive. Milenkovic revealed that the fight will be co-promoted with Mexican ring legend Erik Morales who promotes under the banner of Box Latino.
Milenkovic was quoted as saying ?It is a great honor for me to keep building relations with boxing luminaries across the world and having to work with Erik ?El Terrible? Morales is just another feather in our cap.?
He also revealed for Joyi to engage in a unification fight after the Rodriguez bout.
