NIETES ISN?T SCARED, READY TO FACE GONZALEZ

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer insists that WBO light flyweight champion and former minimumweight world champion Donnie Nietes (30-1-3, 16 KO?s) isn?t scared of Roman Gonzalez (32-0, 27 KO?s) and was ready to face him some time ago after ALA Promotions was contacted by Solar Sports regarding a possible unification bout in September or October.

Aldeguer released an exchange of communications between Paolo Diaz of Solar Sports and ALA Promotions vice president Dennis Canete after Nicaragua?s undefeated WBA world champion Gonzalez claimed in a story on boxingscene.com that he wanted to face Nietes on the undercard of the Brian Viloria-Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez fight card at the Home Depot Center in Carson City, California but that Nietes ?was afraid.?

Boxingscene.com quoted Gonzalez who claimed My attorneys told me they would not take the fight and that?s cowardice because months ago I made a public challenge and when he gets the opportunity to fight, he ran.?

Nietes camp was furious at the statement by Gonzalez with PR Director Chad Canares pointing out that Nietes had "gone to Mexico three times to defend his minimum weight title and beat his Mexican challengers in their own hometowns."

Canares said ?to claim that Nietes is afraid is an insult to Filipino champions led by eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao, four-division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire, two division world champion and current WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria and IBF light flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero who braved rioting fans in Argentina to win the title with a 10th round TKO of Luis Lazarte.?

In an email to Canares last July 4, Diaz said ?I?ve been asked to see if Donnie Nietes and ALA Promotions are interested in a unification bout with Roman Gonzalez (WBA). The tentative date would be sometime at the end of September/early October and the venue would probably be in the Los Angeles area. Solar will be co-promoting the event. Let me now if possible negotiations can begin.?

ALA Promotions vice president for Marketing/Business Development Chad Canares replied to Diaz on July 6 telling him ?it would be great if you can enlighten us with details of the said unification bout so we could review it.?

Aldeguer told the Manila Standard they had informed Solar Sports that Nietes was ?definitely interested in fighting Gonzalez because we have been waiting for this kind of fight for Donnie for the past few years. But they (Solar Sports) never got back to us.?
