WBO No.1 flyweight Milan Melindo who is in line to face champion Brian Viloria even though both fighters are reluctant to do battle, will face former WBC Interim champion Jean Piero Perez of Venezuela in another of the highly successful ?Pinoy Pride? series staged by ALA Promotions in cooperation with ABS-CBN at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu on September 22.

Hoping to capitalize on the resounding success of the exciting ?Pinoy Pride XV? fight card last Saturday which was one of the most exciting and explosive fight cards in recent months, ALA Promotions has decided to give Melindo a tough test and a chance to show his own skills just like light welterweight Jason Pagara and super bantamweight Genesis Servania did last weekend against worthy Mexican opponents.

Pagara avenged his earlier ten round unanimous decision loss to rugged Rosbel Montoya with a cracking sixth round TKO in which he battered the Mexican veteran with ripping body shots before crippling his upper arm with a vicious right that rendered him unable to continue because of intense pain.

Servania hammered Jorge Pazos with devastating combinations to the body and head to win a one-sided decision with the gallant Pazos having to be rushed to hospital after he started vomiting in his dressing room from the battering his body took.

There was also veteran southpaw Jimrez Jaca who scored a sensational knockout with one second remaining in the eighth and final round against Mexican KO artist Angel Hernandez.

The undefeated Melindo has a record of 27-0 with 11 knockouts and is ranked No. 1 by the WBO, No. 6 by the WBC, No. 7 by the WBA and Non. 10 by the IBF while his opponent, Perez who has a record of 19-4-1 with 14 knockouts is ranked No. 4 by the WBA.

Perez who is 31 years old won the WBA flyweight interim title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Jesus Jimenez on January 29, 2011 but lost the title on June 10 that year to Juan Carlos Reveco who caught Perez with a killer hook to the liver in the second round.

However, the Venezuelan came back with an 8th round knockout of Michael Arango on April 26 this year and is eager to face Melindo.

The technically sound Filipino who is just 24 year old has been training hard at the famed ALA Gym where respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer has instituted positive changes such as accentuating strength and conditioning, proper diet and nutrition and modern methods of training to keep pace with the demands of international competition.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told the Manila Standard he is leaving for the US in late October to meet with trainer and former world champion Robert Garcia about setting up camp in San Carlos, California and asking Garcia to train ALA?S roster of promising talents including Melindo, Pagara, Servania and AJ ?Bazooka? Banal who fights for the vacant WBO bantamweight title against No. 2 ranked Pungluang Sor Singyu at the Mall of Asia Arena on October 20.
