For all the excitement light welterweight Jason Pagara?s determination to avenge his loss to Mexico?s tough Rosbel Montoya and promising Genesis Servania?s clash with another Mexican, Jorge Pazos, the battle between hard-hitting welterweight Jimrex Jaca and the equally devastating puncher Angel Martinez may steal the show in ?Pinoy Pride XV? at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino on August 18.
Titled ?Philippines vs Mexico: The Rematch? the ALA Promotions presentation in cooperation with the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN which will telecast the fights on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. with a replay on Studio 23 at 6:30 p.m. promises to be a fight fans delight.
Martinez who has tangled with such renowned fighters as Lucas Matthysse who had big wins against Humberto Soto and DeMarcus Corley has made it clear he isn?t awed by Jaca?s reputation as a heavy hitter even though the Filipino southpaw gave Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez all he could handle before being stopped in the 9th round on November 25, 2006.
The 21 year old Martinez boasted that he had ?the power in both hands to take care of Jaca and knock him out.?
The Mexican youngster said he is a natural light welterweight while Jaca?s knockouts came in fights in lower weight divisions he used to fight in.
He said ?I am excited to show Filipino boxing fans what I?ve got and how I love to go for a knockout.?
Martinez has knocked out 9 of his 16 opponents and lost only twice to world rated fighters like Matthysse.
He said he had studied tapes of Jaca?s fights and has ?devised something to come up with to guarantee victory.? Jaca didn?t take kindly to Martinez? boasts reminding him of the war he waged with Marquez and the crushing 1st round knockout he inflicted on Pipino Cuevas Jr, son of the former world champion Pipino Cuevas on August 28, 2010.
