Former WBO super flyweight champion ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona will get back to training in the gym next week.

Promoter Sammy Gello-ani told the Manila Standard that Sonsona whose last fight in the US had to be canceled after he had back problems was now in his hometown of General Santos City and informed his handlers he wants to get back into training quickly at the gym in Baliangao, Misamis Occidental.

Gello-ani said Sonsona is committed to training hard and regaining his name as a top contender in the featherweight division.

The well known promoter said he plans on arranging a non-title fight for Sonsona and should he perform impressively he would send him back to the US to train under Pablo Sarmiento who is the trainer of Diamond Belt champion Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez of Argentina.

Sonsona was scheduled to face WBO Latino featherweight champion Orlando Cruz last July 6 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas but was forced to pullout because of a ?lumbar sprain and strain? according to Chiropractor Roger Anderson.

Anderson said Sonsona was also suffering from a ?left thigh strain? and was advised ?not to run or lift weights for six weeks.?

Before leaving for the US, Sonsona was training under Danny Bactol and had been sparring with Rey Labao, Weng Haya and Chris Rosales whom Gello-ani said were ?big boys and put in a lot of good work.?
