Top Australian promoter Peter Maniatis who handles super flyweight Fernando Lumacad in a partnership with Jim Manangquil claims Lumacad got the better of WBA flyweight champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez in Sinaloa, Mexico on Sunday, Manila Time and should have got the decision.
Instead, two judges scored the fight for the hometown fighter 97-94 while the third judge had it a draw at 95-95.
Maniatis told the Manila Standard that he had watched the coverage of the fight and thought Lumacad ?won the fight 96-94.?
The promoter said ?it was a tough fight and Marquez is a very good power puncher but Lumacad looked faster and sharper with his punches.?
Maniatis disclosed that Lumacad traveled to Mexico minus his trainer who could not obtain a visa to Mexico. He said Lumacad also arrived in Mexico on Wednesday and it ?really did not give him the time to acclimatize to Mexican conditions.?
The promoter said he had spoken to Manangquil about a plan to get Lumacad a fight in Australia...
Maniatis said Marquez will have problems should he face WBO flyweight champion Brian Viloria in a unification bout which is reportedly being negotiated.
The Lumacad-Marquez fight was billed as a super flyweight eliminator amidst reports that Marquez was having problems making the flyweight limit and was planning to relinquish his title and move up to 115 pounds.
