Fernando Lumacad is reportedly in great shape for his ten round bout against WBA flyweight champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez in Sinaloa, Mexico in a fight that is being billed as a super flyweight eliminator.

Lumacad is co-managed by well-known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis and Jim Claude Manangquil who informed the Manila Standard that Lumacad left for Los Angeles last night and will proceed to Culiacan via Tijuana after an overnight stay in the US.

Manangquil told us that prior to his departure, Lumacad tipped the scales at 116 pounds which is merely one pound over the super flyweight limit and that he is ?in very good shape.?

Maniatis told the Standard that Lumacad ?is ready to pull off a stunning upset? when he battles Marquez who is having trouble making the flyweight limit and is testing the waters at 115 pounds. Reports from Mexico have indicated that Marquez plans to relinquish his title and move up to super flyweight.

Maniatis said Lumacad ?is desperate to make a big impact against Marquez and put himself on the world stage with a win.?

The Mexican?s weight problems surfaced at the weigh in for his title defense against former world champion Rodel Mayol when Marquez tipped the scales two pounds over the limit but mysteriously made the weight five minutes later without even sweating it out.

Because of the controversy over the weight of Marquez, Mayol pulled out of the bout and promoters hurriedly matched Richie Mepranum in a ten round super flyweight bout which Marquez won easily.
