Thailand?s most prominent boxing promotional outfit One Songchai Promotions is dead set on staging the battle for the vacant WBO bantamweight title between No. 1 ranked AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and hometown fighter and No. 2 ranked Pungluang Sor Singyu in Thailand.
The famed Ala Promotions youthful president Michael Aldeguer said that negotiations are still going on but it?s a struggle with the Thai promoter who apparently has solid financial backing.
WBO Asia Pacific vice president Leon Panoncillo who is based in Thailand told us ?they are still negotiating. It seems that One Songchai Promotions has a big backer, a sponsor that is financially well off to support a world championship in Thailand.?
Female promoter Pariyakorn Ratanasuban is the promoter of Sor Singyu while ALA Promotions is also backed by the giant Philippine broadcast network ABS-CBN.
Panoncillo said Pariyakorn Ratanasuban "was named successor of her father?s longtime promotional outfit. Songchai Ratanasuban retired a while back and had his daughter take over." The WBO regional executive said ?she is doing a great job promoting in Thailand.?
The Manila Standard has learned that the Thais have made a lucrative offer to ALA Promotions for Banal although Aldeguer told us that he had made a counter-offer and is waiting for a response.
In case the fight will be held in Thailand, ALA Promotions will insist that it be held in Bangkok in an air-conditioned venue because the usual practice in Thailand is to stage the fight in a provincial, open air venue in blistering afternoon heat which often saps the energy of visiting opponents.
Even the WBC had previously complained when Adrian Hernandez lost his light flyweight title to Kompayak Porpramook by a 10th round knockout on December 23, 2011 claiming the Mexican was housed in a ?hot motel? and was made to sit under the sun for almost two hours prior to the fight.
The Philippines Jonathan Taconing also lost by a extremely controversial 5th round technical decision to Kompayak which raised a howl of protest from the Filipino?s corner including manager/promoter Johnny Elorde.
The WBC conducted a review, suspended the erring South Korean referee for one year and promised Taconing a rematch after a return bout between Kompayak and Hernandez.
