The World Boxing Council headed by its president Don Jose Sulaiman says it regrets the press releases reportedly emanating from Manila about complaints by the promoter and team members of Genaro ?Poblanito? Garcia regarding supposed bad treatment from the Filipino promoter, the respected ALA Promotions.

According to the WBC the main complaint is about the place where ?Poblanito? is staying.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told the Manila Standard that they had offered to transfer the Garcia team to another hotel but he declined saying it was alright especially after his room was upgraded.

Garcia never complained to us who spoke to him often during the press conference and the official weigh-in where we laughed and joked. He looked very happy and contented and even told is that Filipino girls were very beautiful and he was enjoying his stay.

The WBC stated ?we are very surprised because this is the very first time something like this happens. Several Mexicans have traveled to Philippines to fight and nobody has ever complained before. On the contrary the have always said they receive good treatment from Philippine promoters.?

Among the Mexicans who fought on ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN fight cards was WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel who won a controversial split decision overe Z ?The Dream? Gorres on February 24, 2007.

ALA Promotions noted that WBO light flyweight title challenger Felipe Salguero and his team have had no complaints while ?Poblanito? Garcia who is not fighting for a world title and is currently unranked, was the one that was supposedly complaining.

The problems apparently stemmed from the fact that Team Garcia?s matchmaker had submitted the passport names of the entourage of three aside from Garcia and after ALA Promotions purchased the airline tickets they wanted to make a change at the last minute which the airline refused to honor.

Team Garcia wanted ALA Promotions to bear the cost even though it was not the promoters fault which triggered the complaints made in the Mexican media. The position of ALA Promotions was supported by WBC executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman.
