
REFEREE RAUL CAIZ SR EXPECTS A FANTASTIC WBO WORLD TITLE FIGHT BETWEEN NIETES AND SALGUERO

Respected international referee Raul Caiz Sr who has been picked by WBO president Francisco ?Paco? Valcarcel to be the third man in the ring when Donnie Nietes defends his light flyweight title against Mexico?s Felipe Salguero at the Resorts World Hotel & Casino in Manila on June 2.
Caiz Sr told the Manila Standard that what he looks for in any world championship bout ?is a safe, clean, fair and competitive fight which is something the paying customer will pay to come and see again.?
The veteran referee/judge said he has officiated Nietes fights in the past and described him as ?a hard-hitting, clean, very efficient boxer with lots of experience and heart.?
Caiz Sr said he had not had the pleasure of seeing Salguero fight in the past but added ?I know that ALA Boxing only makes the most competitive bouts for their fighters and their excellent fans, so I expect a Fantastic Fight fitting for the occasion.?
Caiz Sr told us that he has been ?blessed with the opportunity and the pleasure to officiate 135 World Championship Bouts during my career, a career that has given me the opportunity to visit many great countries like Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Aruba, Panama, Mexico, Nicaragua, Canada, Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Russia, Ukraine, Spain, South Africa, England along with many cities here in the United States.?
He said that all of the title fights he refereed ?have a special place in my heart. I have been able to officiate many past, current and future Hall of Famers? listing (Evander) Holyfield, (Naseem) Hamed, (Julio Cesar) Chavez Sr., (Oscar) De la Hoya, (Joe) Calzaghe, (Marco Antonio) Barrera, Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire, the Marquez Brothers Juan Manuel and Rafael, (Jorge) Linares, (Felix) Strum, (Chris)John, Carbajal, (Andre) Ward, (Roy) Jones Jr., Klitschko's (Wladimir and Vitali), (Edwin) Valero, (Shane) Mosley, (Antonio) Margarito, (James) Toney, (Fernando) Vargas, (Johnny) Tapia, (Ricardo) Mayorga, Kessler, (Samuel) Peter, (Darius) Michalezewski, (Kelly) Pavlik, and (Floyd) Mayweather Jr. just to name a few.
Raul Caiz Sr revealed that ?some of the most memorable fights have been, Joe Calzaghe/Jeff Lacy, Carbajal/ Jorge Arce, Vargas/Mayorga, Marcus Maidana/Victor Ortiz, Mosley/Margarito, Peter/Toney, Kostya Tszyu /Sharmba Mitchell, Calzaghe/Mikel Kessler, Antonio Demarco/Linares, Ward/Danny Green.
He also participated in a number of special programs such as ?The Contender?, ?Celebrity Boxing? and the ?Super Six? series on Showtime.
The widely experienced Raul Caiz Sr?s first refereeing assignment was a six round bout won by Fernando Guzman with a 1st round KO of Derrick Hudson at the Civic Auditorium in Bakersfield, California on June 16, 1986.
His first world title fight was the WBO middleweight championship when Pat Lawlor retired in the 9th round against John David Jackson on June 9, 1992.
Caiz Sr also refereed the fight when Oscar De La Hoya scored a 9th round TKO over John Avila at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles on December 10, 1994.
He was the referee when Z ?The Dream? Gorres scored an 8th round TKO over former world champion Eric Ortiz at the Arco Arena in the Philippines-Mexico World Cup of Boxing on August 11, 2007 and handled the bout when Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire scored a 2ndround TKO over Jose Luis Cardenas on July 29, 2006.
