The cracker of a fight between former WBC/WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KOs) and Allan Green (31-4, 21 KOs) at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark will be telecast on the widely watched ?Big Time Bakbakan? boxing show over Active TV ? AKTV IBC 13 at 12:00 noon on Sunday.
Kessler scored a sensational 4th round knockout over Green and moved into contention for the ?Knockout of the Year? award in a fight that was action-packed from the opening bell.
Green dropped Kessler in the opening round but Kessler was able to stay out of trouble for the rest of the round before he came back to rock Green in the second and third rounds before finishing him off with a cracking left to the chin in the 4th round.
The win earned Kessler the WBC Silver title and put him in line once again for bigger things.
In a post fight interview Kessler said This was a great victory for me.? He explained the first round knockdown as his having to get rid of the ring rust but added, ?once I got going, everything went according to plan. I am glad I could give my fans a spectacular victory. Their support was fantastic.?
Kessler?s trainer Jimmy Montoya emphasized that his fighter ?has always had a lot of power in both hands. He prepared Green well to the body. He opened him up and then he caught him. And that was not a lucky punch.?
Well known promoter Kalle Sauerland said that the knockout and the way Kessler set-up Green with body shots showed that Kessler is still at the very top of the sport.
Sauerland recalled ? I said before he (Kessler) needs to win and he needs to impress and today he delivered in impressive fashion. The people of Denmark can be very proud of their Viking Warrior. He has great fights coming up now.?
It was Kessler?s second fight since pulling out of the Super Six tournament due to double vision in August 2010. He returned in June 2011 to stop Mehdi Bouadla. He then suffered a hand injury that scuttled a fight with WBO champ Robert Stieglitz, before his spectacular return against Green.
Kessler won the WBA super middleweight title when Manny Siaca retired in the 7th round of a title fight on November 12, 2004 and then added the WBC belt when he stopped Markus Beyer in the 3rd round on October 14, 2006.
But the Danish champion lost both belts in a unification battle with WBO champion Joe Calzaghe on November 3, 2007.
The fight against Green was Kessler?s second bout since pulling out of the Super Six tournament due to double vision in August 2010. He returned in June 2011 to stop Mehdi Bouadla. He then suffered a hand injury that scuttled a fight with WBO champ Robert Stieglitz, before his spectacular return against Green
