Cuello figured in a 3rd round draw with Juan Hernandez in an earlier title eliminator after being dropped in the second round but recovering to deck Hernandez in the third. Since then Cuello has won nine fights in a row, 2 by knockout and 7 by TKO.

Lopez, like Cuello is a southpaw and has won his last four fights, 1 by knockout and 3 by TKO after winning the WBC
Silver belt with a twelve round decision over Omar Soto on August 14, 2010.

In his last fight Cuello won by a 4tth round TKO over Thailand's Kid Suriyana in a scheduled ten round bout on March 10 this year
while Lopez won by a TKO over Samuel Garcia who had a poor record of 3 wins as against 9 defeats.
