Undefeated Milan Melindo fights former WBO light flyweight champion Jesus ?Blade? Geles of Colombia for the vacant WBO Intercontinental flyweight title at the Resorts Hotel and Casino in Manila on June 2 to be telecast by the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN on its top rated series ?Pinoy Pride.?

The 24 year old Melindo who is ranked No. 1 by the WBO, No 7 by the WBC, No. 9 by the WBA and No. 12 by the IBF is the reigning WBO Intercontinental champion with a record of 26-0 including 10 knockouts.

In his last fight Melindo scored a 7th round TKO over Juan Esquer in a successful defense of the title on January 28 this year after winning the vacant crown when Francisco Rosas retired in the tenth round on September 10, 2011.

The 24 year old Geles has a record of 13-2 with 5 knockouts and in his last fight won a six round unanimous decision over Wilfrido Lans on March 30 this year.

Geles had previously won the WBO Interim light flyweight title with a twelve round split decision over Ramon Garcia Hirales on February 5, 2011 but lost the title when he suffered a 4th round knockout in a rematch on April 30, 2011.

Boxing Scene?s Jake Donovan in a report on their first fight said that Geles, the hometown fighter was ?saving up for a strong finish, outworking Hirales in the championships rounds.? Donovan said the win by Geles who earned the title shot after scoring a majority decision over faded former title challenger Omar Soto was a ?huge upset? and rendered Geles as ?a sudden player in a richly talented 108 pound division.?

However, after losing in a rematch Geles claimed he made a fatal mistake by standing his ground to trade punches with Garcia Hirales.

Boxing Scene?s Jhonny Gonzalez reported that Geles stood in the center of the ring to trade blows which was something very different from the strategy he planned with his coach Martin Valdez.

Geles claimed he stopped ?because he felt dizzy in the first round. I couldn?t figure out what was wrong and I began to exchange punches with him. I was wrong to do that but I?m young and I?m sure I?ll be crowned champion again.?
