The WBO flyweight title defense of Brian Viloria against mandatory challenger and former champion Omar Nino Romero of Mexico has been moved to May 12 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City, Metro Manila.
The fight which was originally scheduled for April 21 had to be postponed to a later date after the Nevada State Athletic Commission stopped the WBO from sanctioning the fight due to Romero's failure to pay the NSAC an outstanding obligation of $11,500 in penalties incurred in the past.
Romero needs to pay the NSAC for the fight to be sanctioned by the WBO.
Viloria who won the WBC light flyweight title with a spectacular 1st round knockout of Eric Ortiz lost the title to Romero by a somewhat controversial unanimous decision in 2006.
The rematch ended in another controversial draw enabling Romero to retain the title. However, a post fight drug test showed the Mexican had taken a banned substance and the decision was changed to a "no-contest" and Romero was suspended.
Viloria fought for the vacant title but lost to Edgar Sosa before scoring a spectacular 11th round knockout to win the IBF light flyweight title from Ulises Solis at the Araneta Coliseum.
After losing the title to Carlos Tamara by a 12th round TKO when he was ahead on the scorecards of all three judges, Viloria decided to move up in weight and won the WBO flyweight title with a comfortable unanimous decision over Julio Cesar "Pingo" Miranda and in his last fight scored a stunning 8th round TKO over pound-for-pound No. 9 Giovanni Segura.
The two-division world champion Viloria who has a record of 30-3 with 16 knockouts has said he is eager to avenge his previous loss to Romero who has a record of 31-4-2 with 13 knockouts. He said ?I want to clean the slate this fight. We?ve had a loss and draw, changed to a no contest, and that was my first loss. It kind of set the tone for how my career would go. I feel like ther?ed be unfinished business if I left it like that. The trilogy gives me a chance to put that chapter behind me. Romero is deceivingly quick and a little awkward at times. He goes in-and-out fairly well and throws a lot of combinations.?
Titled "Island Assault 4:The Battle," the fight card will be presented by Solar Sports and distributed in the United States by Integrated Sports Media on both cable and satellite pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVNfor a suggested retail price of only $29.95."
