Top Rank promoter Bob Arum?s faith in Kelly Pavlik, the former world middleweight champion, has paid off.

Moving up one division to super middleweight and moving over to trainer Robert Garcia who also trains WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire, Pavlik scored an impressive 2nd round TKO over Aaron Jaco at the Illusion Theater in the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas.

It was what boxingscene.com described as ?a stay busy type fight to show off his progress with new trainer Robert Garcia? and it worked out well.

Pavlik who is a known boxer put on a fine display of skill in the opening round before decking Jaco late in the round with a left hook.

Using his left to near perfection Pavlik cracked Jaco with another left early in the second round that staggered Jaco and prompted referee Jon Schorle to wave the fight off. Pavlik improved to 33-2 with 22 knockouts while Jaco dropped to 15-3 with 5 knockouts.

In a post fight interview Pavlik said he was calm and relaxed and that he thought Jaco was ?looking for a right but I got him with my left. I feel good and I am back.?

For his part trainer Garcia, a former world champion said ?the plan was to stay calm, work off the jab, then get to work. Kelly did everything at a high level.?

Jaco conceded that ?Game plans are great until you are punched. I never felt power like that.?

Paul Magno on Yahoo Voices had posed the question whether ?after two nightmare years of injury, mismanagement, defeat and horrible public relations, can 2008?s future superstar get back on the road to glory??

With his win today, Pavlik has at least stepped back onto the road.
