WBC junior welterweight champion Erik ?El Terrible? Morales failed to make the weight for his title defense against undefeated Danny Garcia and was stripped of his title.
John Martinez of boxscore news informed the Manila Standard that Morales ?looking soft and without his regular definition? entered the official weigh in two pounds over the 140 pound limit.
Martinez reported that the 35 year old Morales ?to not risk weakening himself in order to lose weight.?
As a result he will he will forfeit $50,000 of his $1 million purse and the title becomes vacant should Morales win.
However, under WBC rules if Garcia wins, he will be crowned the new WBC welterweight champion.
With his 10th round TKO victory over Pablo Cesar Cano last September Morales who has a record of 52-7, 36 knockouts became the first Mexican to win four world titles in four different weight divisions.
However, against the 24 year old challenger from Philadelphia who looked in perfect shape at the weigh in and tipped the scales at 139 ? pounds, Morales will face a tough battle to win.
The Morales-Garcia fight card will be telecast on the popular weekly boxing show "Big Time Bakbakan" at 12:noon on Sunday over AKTV IBC 13.
