The Philippines Nesthy Petecio scored another rousing win in the 6th Asian Women?s Boxing Championships at the new sport palace in Buyant-Ukhaa in the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator to power her way into the semi finals.

The talented bantamweight from Davao once again demonstrated her hand-speed and power to demolish tough North Korean opponent Un Jong Choe 12-5.

ABAP executive director and Philippine delegation head Ed Picson reported that the wily North Korean ?tried to use one-upmanship to rattle the Filipina but Petecio kept her cool and stuck to her game plan? which revolved around rapid-fire punches to the head and body behind excellent footwork.

So dominating was Petecio that she got the nod of all five judges in the four-round bout. Petecio who is assured of a bronze medal at least, battles China?s Ke Jia Liu in the semi finals on Saturday.

The Manila Standard learned that the Chinese head coach selected Liu from Inner Mongolia since she will be very close to her training venue.

In her opening bout Petecio who was an AIBA World Championships quarter finalist and President?s Cup winner controlled her bout against Chinese-Taipei?s 17 year old Hu Yuan to win by a lopsided 12-3 margin. Petecio?s teammate Josie Gabuco was not as fortunate as she faced China?s Yukie Luo in her opening bout in the light flyweight division and dropped a hard-fought 10-16 decision.

Gabuco engaged her Chinese opponent in several fierce exchanges but failed to pull off a win.

AIBA World Championship bronze medalist and three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Alice Kate Aparri, the third member of the PLDT-ABAP team will see action on Thursday against Vietnam?s Tuyet Mai Nguyen Thi.

The AIBA website described the young Vietnamese as ?a strong flyweight boxer? who was selected to the national squad despite her loss in the Vietnam national championships. Tuyet moves to the showdown with Aparri after powering past Sri Lanka?s 33 year old Anusha Dilrukshi Kodituwakku, an AIBA World Championship quarter finalist and a ?Road to London? program participant.

Alice Kate Aparri is an experienced boxer who won a bronze medal at the 2001 Asian Women?s Championship and changed weight in an effort to win a berth to the 2012 London Olympic Games. She put on an excellent showing in her opening bout in beating Chinese-Taipei?s Pin Meng Chieh 15-5.

The winner earns a slot in the semi finals. India?s five-time AIBA world champion Mary Kom and China?s Ren Rancan, a tnwo-time AIBA World champion and Asian Games gold medalist who demolished her 20 year old South Korean opponent Kim Ye Ji forcing the Korean?s corner to throw in the towel in the third round.
