Hagonoy pugs prevail over Davao, 4-2 in dual meet

DAVAO City -- The visiting Hagonoy Amateur Boxing team of Mayor Franco Calida prevailed over the Davao City pugs by winning four of their six fights in their dual meet in the 75th Araw ng Dabaw Boxing Showdown held Saturday afternoon at the Rizal Park.

Hagonoy?s Jun Traya stopped Arnel Agustin of the Calinan Boxing Team by a referre-stopped-contest in the third round of their 45-kilogram bout. Aldrin Moreno, son of former amateur standout Renato, also landed powerful and quick left-right combinations to knock out Calinan?s John Carlo Noses in 1:02 of the opening round in the 48 kgs. Bout.

Jun-Jun Bagaan and Neil Dapiclan also won for Hagonoy by points against Calinan?s John Brayan and Yolly Alfante Stable?s Bonjon Canete, respectively.

?I?m proud of my boxers, who gave all their best to win,? said head trainer Mario Sumalinog, a former Philippine bantamweight champion.

The said amateur boxing matches were part of the undercard in the 75th Araw ng Dabaw Boxing Showdown promoted by Yolly Alfante, Vic Adriano and Sumalinog.

It was sponsored by Vice Mayor Rody Duterte, Rep. Manny Pacquiao, Korean Jung Wan Hwa and the Yolly Alfante Training Center.
