LOPEZ PUTS JAPANESE FOE ON THE FLOOR TWICE; WINS IN BAKBAKAN SA ELORDE

REIGNING WBC Silver Super flyweight kingpin Sylvester Lopez (19-3, 15 KOs) of the Philippines put Yuki Fukumoto (12-6, 3 KOs) of Japan on the floor twice, in the third and fourth rounds, to win the main event of dubbed as Bakbakan sa Elorde at the Elorde Grandball room in Sucat, Paranaque late Saturday.

Lopez, top prospect of Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde stable prevails after 19 seconds in the 4th stanza in the event presented by Petron XCS, Ginebra San Miguel, Magnolia Pure Water and Fruit Juices.

"He has an awkward style, he's good and has power," said the WBO Asia-Pacific rank 5 and IBO rank 31 Lopez.

With the win, the 24-year-old Zamboanga Sibugay fighter Lopez get a crack for a world title shot against the March 27 fight survivor between WBC champion Suriyan Sor Rungvisai of Thailand and Japanese challenger Yota Sato for the WBC Super flyweight world title belt.

In other matches saw in the event presented by Petron XCS, Ginebra San Miguel, Magnolia Pure Water and Fruit Juices were WBC Youth Light flyweight ruler Renan Tronco beat Ricky Oyan in the 4th round, veteran campaigner Vinvin Rufino nipped Jestoni Pepito in the 5th round, WBC Youth Super Flyweight Champion Gabriel Altajeros won via 6th round unanimous decision against Menard Zaragosa while Super flyweight Melvin Soriano ended his game into a Majority Draw against Gerald Ubatay. Jessebelle Pagaduan, on the other hand stopped Ann Rose Kim in the 2nd stanza.
