The Mexican Boxing Commission confirmed early Saturday morning that the fighter in Tagbilaran City, Bohol to face Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista later today in a ten round bout at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex is lightweight Genaro "Panterita" Garcia and not featherweight Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia who had fought eight world champions and had been contracted to fight Bautista by ALA Promotions.

Respected boxing patron Tony Aldeguer and his youthful son Michael Aldeguer, president of ALA Promotions were burning the wires last night into the wee hours of Saturday morning in an effort to get to the bottom of what is an apparent swindle by matchmaker/agent identified as Victor Hugo Correa Cedillo.

Tony Aldeguer told the Manila Standard after confirming the identify of the Garcia who showed up and has a 10-11, 6 KO record according to boxrec.com which isn't always accurate, that "We must tell the public the truth. We cannot deceive them because that is not in our nature, its not our style. We bare the facts but will go on with the fight."

Michael Aldeguer who was with a group of sportswriters, referee Bruce McTavish and this reporter last night said "We are all victims but there is nothing we can do right now but tell fight fans the truth."

Aldeguer made the rounds of radio stations here in Tagbilaran City to explain what happened while Cebu stations and the widely read philboxing.com and Las Vegas based boxingscene.com also ran stories detailing what transpired.

The Aldeguers met with Garcia again this morning and he claimed his manager was contacted by Hugo Correa to take the fight. He showed his passport and a clearance from the Mexican Boxing Commission which indicated the name Genaro Garcia Gutierrez with the birth date September 19, 1978 which means the fighter is 33 years old.

The Manila Standard contacted World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman at 3:00 a.m. Manila Time and he expressed his utter regrets over the incident and said he had assigned several people to track down Correa and to get to the bottom of the story.

The real Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia had fought WBC super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka and lost by a 12th round TKO when referee Bruce McTavish stopped the fight. One look at the Garcia in town and McTavish said "he is not the Garcia who fought Nishioka for sure."

Suspicions first arose at the press conference when Garcia said the toughest boxer he fought was Hector Velasquez, the same fighter who suffered an 8th round TKO at the hands of pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao some years ago.

When philboxing.com site owner Dong Secuya and other alert sportswriters checked the records there was no fight involving the Garcia who was contracted to fight Bautista and Velasquez, creating further doubts about the true identity of Garcia.

A cross-check with boxrec.com records showed that the lightweight Garcia, the fighter who is in Bohol had actually fought Velasquez on May 19, 2007 and lost by a first round knockout.
