WBC silver super bantamweight champion Victor ?Vikingo? Terrazas is the likely opponent of WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire (28-1, 18 KO?s) in July.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told the Manila Standard that his matchmakers are ?talking about the Mexican Terrazas? for a title fight scheduled for July 14 in Texas. The Top Rank matchmakers are Hall-of-Famer Bruce Trampler and Brad Goodman.

The 29 year old Terrazas has a record of 32-2-1 with 18 knockouts. He has fought some of the top fighters in his division and is coming off a big twelve round unanimous decision win over former WBC/WBO super bantamweight champion Fernando ?Cochulito? Montiel last November 19, 2011. Terrazas who dropped Montiel in the 5th round grabbed the WBC 122 pound silver title with the win.

Donaire won the WBC/WBO bantamweight title with a spectacular 2nd round demolition of Montiel on February 19, 2011and then went on to score a twelve round unanimous decision in a title defense against previously undefeated Argentine two-division champion Omar Narvaez on October 10 at The Theater in Madison Square Garden.

Prior to the win over Montiel, Terrazas scored a twelve round split decision win over former WBA bantamweight champion Nehomar Cermeno in a WBA super bantamweight eliminator on January 29, 2011.

Following his devastating loss to Donaire, Montiel moved up to 122 pounds and quickly scored wins over Nehomar Cermeno in June last year followed by a win over Alvaro Perez in August and was looking for a win .over Terrazas to put him in line for a title shot in a fourth weight division.

But Terrazas wanted the win himself and in an action-packed bout Terrazas beat a bloodied, battered and cut Montiel to win a unanimous decision.

Terrazas has been on the fringes of a big fight and a title shot for sometime and should the fight against Donaire push through, it would be the chance he?s been looking for as a legitimate title contender.

Donaire meantime is recovering well from the injury to his left hand suffered during his comfortable unanimous decision win over former WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr whom he dropped in the 9th round en route to adding a fourth world title at the Alamadome in San Antonio, Texas last February 4.

The Philippine Sportswriters Association ?Athlete of the Year? told us he plans to get back into the gym by March in preparation for his next fight which is will be the second in a busy year where he is eager to fight four times.

Donaire?s wife Rachel said on Wednesday morning that they still hadn?t decided on whether to fly to Manila for the PSA Awards but would make up their mind in a couple of days.
