6 KO's in 'Ring War' in Davao

DIGOS City -- Except from the main event, all the
bouts in the "Ring War in Davao del Sur" ended up via
the short route last Friday night at the Capitol in
Matti here.

Stocky Balweg Bangoyan, a protege of Jose Abad Santos
Mayor Zander Khan Stable stopped John Suico of Leonil
Lazarito Stable from Valencia, Bukidnon in 2:25 of the
second round.

The 19-year old Bangoyan unanswered landed telling
blows forcing the referee to stop the 118-pound bout
scheduled for four rounds.

Three wards from manager Tony Dacer of Davao City also
won by knockouts.

Jessie Albarracin twice knocked down Rodel Veronque of
Joel Kaamino Stable-Cagayan de Oro City in the first
round. Roy Taguibalos kayoed Reymon Legaspi also of
CDO in 2:00 of the first round, while Jimboy Ambray
TKO'd Ronel Caballero of Dodong Danong Stable-Midsayap
in the opening round.

Bonn Corales of Vic J. Adriano Stable-Davao City
survived a first round knockdown to stop Danong's
Ariel Salvano in 1:05 of the fourth round.

In the main event, former outstanding amateur boxers
Jetly Purisima of Rey Golingan Stable-Gen. Santos City
and Dacer's Vinel Desabille settled to a majority draw
after a hotly constested 4-round fight.

Judges Abdul Marajan and Ramil Ovalo both saw it
38-all, while GAB OIC Jimmy Mata had it 39-48 in favor
of Purisima.

"Parehong magagaling sila. They will meet again soon
in a rematch. But not this time," Golingan said.

Promoter Zander Khan, a.k.a. Alexander Wangkay was
impressed on the fights, which will be shown later on
Sky Cable TV. Also present were Gov. Joseph Bautista,
Rep. Claude Bautista and officials of the Mindanao
Professional Boxing Association (Minproba).
