Mayol.
Former world champion Rodel Mayol gets another crack at the world title when he battles World Boxing Association champion Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez of Mexico on March 24.

Pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz told the Manila Standard he confirmed the title shot at a meeting with promoter Fernando Beltran and Juan Carlos in San Antonio, Texas and that the fight will take place in Mexico.

Koncz said Mayol is likely to have a tune-up fight in General Santos City on a card being staged by MP Promotions headed by Pacquiao.

Koncz said he would ?let him have the tune-up fight and then I?ll talk to Rodel and see what he wants to do ? train at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles or train in Davao with Nonoy Neri.

The 30 year old Mayol, nicknamed ?Kid Rapido? is the former WBC light flyweight champion and has a record of 30-5-2 with 22 knockouts. He won the title in a somewhat controversial fashion with a 2nd round TKO of highly favored Edgar Sosa in Mexico when Sosa was dropped after Rodel opened up a cut over Sosa's left cheek with an accidental head-butt and caught him, on the ropes with a flurry of punches forcing the stoppage. It was later discovered that Sosa had a fractured cheekbone and although his handlers vehemently protested the decision it was upheld by WBC executive secretary Mauricio Sulaiman who was at ringside.

Mayol then lost the title in a rematch with Omar Nino Romero on June 19, 2010 after their first fight ended in a technical draw in the 3rd round following a clash of heads. When Mayol lost the title to Omar Nino Romero he was deducted one point in round two and another in round 5 for an accidental head-butt which opened up cuts on the eyebrows of Romero.

Since he lost the title Mayol has won four fights in a row capped by a 4th round TKO of Ernie Marquez at the San Manuel Indian Casino in Highland, California on October 27, 2011.

Koncz disclosed that he had tried to get a rematch for Richie Mepranum but since Mepranum had out-boxed Marquez in a previous fights ?that was one of the reasons I think they opted to go with Rodel. They felt Mepranum was too difficult a fight..? That was on March 12, 2010 at the Gaylord Hotel in Grapevine, Texas when Mepranum won a comfortable ten round decision. Marquez also lost by an 8th round TKO to reigning four-division champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire in a WBA super flyweight interim title fight on in San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 10, 2010.

Koncz revealed that under a gentleman?s agreement ?if for some reason Mayol doesn?t win then they?ll give Mepranum a shot at him (Marquez) after that.?

Mepranum is currently training at Rommel Nazario?s gym in Sucat, Paranaque along with Alan Tanada, the former Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation featherweight champion who will see action in Puerto Rico on March 10 in the same card where Bernabe Concepcion (29-5-1, 15 KO?s) clashes with the undefeated Mikey Garcia (27-0, 23 KO?s) , younger brother of Robert Garcia, the trainer of Donaire.

Koncz said he had spoken to Concepcion twice this past week and was told by Concepcion that he is working out in Manila under a new trainer.

Koncz said that in the upcoming fight against Garcia ?we need to have a superb performance. His last two fights where he lost one and won one were a little lackluster and this will determine whether his career is going anywhere so it?s a very import fight regardless of whether its a title eliminator or not.?

He said Garcia ?is a good fighter and he can hit but Bernabe has fought twice for a world title and we didn?t have a good showing in the first one (when he was disqualified in the 7th round for punching champion Steve Luevano after the bell) and everybody knows what happened there when they went for a knockout.?

Koncz was referring to the title fight against Juan Manuel ?Juanma? Lopez when Concepcion dropped the champion in the dying seconds of the first round but was himself dropped and battered forcing the referee to call; a halt in the second round with Juanma retaining his title by a TKO.
